Moraine Lake is notorious for being hard to access because it’s not unusual for the parking lot to be full by 6 a.m. (maybe earlier). It also doesn’t help that Moraine Lake is the starting point of the popular Larch Valley hike, so in the parking lot you’ve got people there to visit Moraine Lake and people there to hike! Canoeing on Moraine Lake is an incredible experience that most would happily pay for. But as a guest at Moraine Lake Lodge, we happily offer it complimentary. Your trip across the sparkling crystal waters can be anywhere between 60 to 90 minutes, and the dock is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm every day. So make sure you don’t miss the boat.

2011-10-07 Moraine Lake is incredibly gorgeous and we were so happy that we woke up at 4 AM to enjoy the beautiful lake before the large crowds started arriving around 9 AM. We were still surprised to see lots of people at the lake at such an early hour but I think everyone’s starting to get the idea that if you don’t arrive early, there’s no way you’re getting a parking spot.
