Oban 14 Year Old is one of the last Classic Malts we hadn’t reviewed. It has been around since the late 1980s, it has long been the only regular expression and not much has changed in the core range since then. Oban 14 yo (43%, OB +/- 2017) Nose: I like this. Oban 14 Years is the core offering from the Oban distillery which is among the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Erected in 1794 it was the beginning of what would become the city of Oban.

Oban 14 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Oban 14 year old can often be found sitting on many the pub/bar whisky shelf – it is overlooked far more often than it should be. Whilst I’d probably appreciate an extra 3% of ABV punch to help deliver the flavours, this is still a well-balanced and highly drinkable whisky. Oban 14 year 43% Nose – Sherry, berry, apple, pears, a little leathery but overall fruity, some citrus orange peel, honey sweetness Palate – Apple juice, cherry, a puff of smoke, nutmeg, nicely balanced, enough to chew on to satisfy without being heavy Oban 14 Year Old Single Malt - Highland - Medelfyllig , gyllengult, svag rökighet, fruktig, kryddig, honungskaraktär Oban's standard 14 y.o. expression is matured in refilled ex-bourbon hogsheads. Fine stuff that's almost perfectly balanced, quite smooth and velvety, herewith strong and elegant. The complexity in a strong package.
